Windswept Pines Designs is a sole proprietorship and is owned by David St Amand. When David was 14, he revved up his father’s lawnmower and started cutting lawns and maintaining gardens in the neighbourhood. He fell in love with the outdoors and nature.
David brings that love of the outdoors and gardening to his landscape designs
David holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Windsor where he studied Urban Geography. At university, David learned about urban planning, history, urban architecture, and landscapes. David’s focus area was in urban retail analysis. Upon graduating, he obtained a position at Canadian Tire and during his 36-year career at Canadian Tire, David held progressive positions in market analysis, property management, project management and system implementation.
Since retiring in 2020, David has focused his time learning about landscape design and gardening. He is currently working on redesigning his one-acre property in Moonstone, Ontario. David is a member of the board for the Oro-Medonte Horticulture Society, is the newsletter editor and assists with various garden projects in the community.
During David’s studies at the University of Guelph, he has provided landscape design recommendations to friends and family. In the past, David has worked on several properties where a landscape design would have been useful to guide the process. Through this experience David envisioned a need for simple, easy to read landscape designs that could be built by the homeowner.
David feels strongly that creating a landscape design isn’t just about putting a design on paper. He provides his clients with an easy-to-read plan, plant recommendations and care and maintenance instructions. He believes that his clients should spend time enjoying working in the garden not researching how to maintain it.
